Deleting emails with iMAP

I  have  a Mac  ( OS Sequoia 15.3.2 ) , an phone 18 and an iPad 18 ( both OS   18.3.2 ).    My MAIL runs on iMAP ( all devices).  I wish to be able permanently store some emails on my Mac whilst clearing these same emails from the Inboxes of my iPhone and iPad.  Will moving these emails from my Mac inbox into a to either a Local Folder or Smart Folder on it,  prevent their deletion when I delete them from the other devices.

I understand that with iMAP,   deleting an email from one device Inbox deletes it from all devices.   Simply,  are emails in Mac Folders and Smart Folders safe from other device Inbox deletions?

Thank you.

Hello Oakcottage,

I wouldn’t use a Smart Mailbox for this. Use instead a local mailbox (folder) in the “On My Mac” location. This is what I use to archive the emails most important to me.

The “On My Mac” location is completely disconnected from the email (IMAP) servers. The emails in that location are stored exclusively on your Mac.

Thank you 6x6,   I  have several Smart Folders which I therefore now need  to remake  into Folders under "On My Mac".    Looking  at it further,    I understand now that a Smart Folder is not strictly a Folder but the results of a search.    Also,   to  retain the " Smart "contents together  in one place it seems I have to delete the"whole" Smart Folder and possibly transfer it to a new Local Folder.    I found this in a very old conversation on the Community post ( 5/6 May 2013 ) which discusses deleting Smart Folders.    I will look at this with up to date Apple Support information starting with a small Smart Folder.

Thank you for your help
