Can’t add a card to Apple Wallet

I have an iPhone 13 running iOS 18.3.2 and I haven’t been able to add a payment card to my wallet since January. I lost my (physical) wallet and had to cancel both cards that that were in my Apple Wallet. Since then I have tried adding the new cards but get the message to contact the financial institution. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in of My Apple ID on my phone and I’ve reset my network settings, but I still can’t add a card. My bank has a link in its app to Apple Wallet, I’ve been on the phone with them while trying to add it and they said that there wasn’t a request from Apple coming through to be approved. I’ve tried adding 2 debit cards and 3 credit cards and none of them work. I’m so frustrated and don’t know what else to do.

Try the following:

  • Be sure to activate your card before attempting to add it to Apple Wallet.
  • Be sure card has not expired.
  • Be sure to verify all information on the card matches exactly.

Apple Pay Support

If none of those work, then try linking the payment method:

Open Settings ➢ your name at the top of the list ➢ Payment & ShippingAdd Payment Method.

Once the payment method has been added, you should have the option to link it to Apple Pay.

Good luck! 👋🏼😉

Most banks use the Payment Network Operator (Mastercard , Visa etc.) to verify accounts and identity. If they verify everything, your request to add the card is being stopped by the PNO. When the PNO blocks your attempt, they send a notification to your Wallet to contact the bank. The bank needs to contact the PNO and get the issues resolved.
