Why won't Apple reimburse a stolen Apple Gift Card purchase?

I bought an Apple gift card and tried to use it to no avail. I subsequently sent pictures of the card and receipt to both Apple support and the grocery store I purchased it from.

Neither party would give me a refund.

Apple is the richest company in the world and they will not reimburse a purchase!

Really!

Refunds aren’t based on the size of company, market capitalization etc. Refunds are based on the merits of the request.

These communities are not official Apple Support and are a public discussion forum for fellow Apple users to connect and assist each other with tips, suggestions etc.

No one here has access to your personal or financial information. Now, with all the information there are people here willing to read your posts and offer suggestions, but Apple will never see your posts and no one in the community can grant a refund request.

So, if you’d like to share details, you’ll have readers. If not, your recourse is to contact official Apple Support.

It’s a little late for that.
Apple should pull all of their third party gift cards and require customers to buy from them direct.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Product Feedback - Apple

But realistically, that's never going to happen.

Kroger is aware that their customers are being scammed right in their stores and some of the stores are taking action by locking up the Gift Card racks so they cannot be tampered with. They have started with over 100 of the stores and the article also has a number to call if you have been a victim of a Gift Card Scam in their stores. Not sure if it will help, but may be worth a shot. If the manager seemed to not know what happened, then they were not being genuine and knew exactly what was going on, but just did not want to tell you.

The invalid message when redeeming a Gift Card is usually due to the numbers being entered incorrectly or read incorrectly from the camera, possible because they have partly been scratched off. That is easily resolved by sending the pic and receipt to Apple like you did. If it was determined the card had already been redeemed, then that would mean you were the victim of a Gift Card scam in the Kroger Store.

Hi, I do not work for Apple, but as disclosed in my profile, I’m a former Apple Retail Store manager. I left to lead a struggling nonprofit organization centered around photography. But a major portion of my life has been centered teaching (photography) and what might be called customer experience and satisfaction.

I responded here because I sometimes can lend insights into the operations and processes to achieve a better customer experience. But, if all you have is vitriolic posts, I’m not sure I’ll be able to assist in a meaningful way.

It’s your call and I’m willing to listen.

I’ve responded to the link you suggested and was given a generic response with no resolution.

The feedback page explicitly states that you won't get a reply. It's not intended as a support page. It is only to let Apple know what your thoughts are.

All ears is basically my role at this point. In other words if all I hear is I want a refund, then there’s not much I can add to the conversation. No offense, everybody wants a refund. 😀

But if I hear a story with a background that can relate to a poor customer experience, there may be avenues and processes to explore. No one needs to know the specific details etc. But if we learn about the events and customer experience, there may be solutions.

What’s the possible outcome? Worst case scenario is we can’t help. What’s the best case, we help you resolve the issues. My view is almost always, nothing ventured then nothing gained.

I purchased an apple gift card in the amount of $55.00 from Kroger grocery store. I then proceeded to use it and the response that I received was card invalid.

I went back to the grocery store and they showed me the $55.00 was put on the card. I then called Apple support and was told there was nothing they could do about it. I called a second time to Apple support and was told to provide pick of card and receipt which I did. About four days later I received an email saying sorry can’t do anything about it and it went on to say let Apple support know if there is anything else that they can help with.
