I'm from Spain and Im going to be in ny in september, i'd like to order a bacbook online cause i want spanish keyboard, my question is that if i do that, can i have a tourist tax refund when i pick it up at apple store? Or tax refund is only available when i purchase directly at apple store?
Like Tom write, it won't matter. New York doesn't offer a tourist tax refund like some countries. In three states- Louisiana, Texas and Washington State- you can get sales tax refunded on qualifying items, with a few restrictions. However, no other state allows for a tourist refund like many countries that use a VAT (value added tax) structure.
The good news is that sales tax in New York is only 4% compared to the standard 21% in Spain, though. (There's also no federal sales tax tacked on top- sales tax in America is determined at the individual state level, which is also why a few states (New Hampshire, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Delaware) don't charge any sales tax at all, instead compensating with different/higher taxes elsewhere.)
