iPhone Messages "Other" storage is blank but using up a lot of space. What can I do?

I am trying to free up space on both my phone and iCloud (which I am told is now full). When I go into Messages, I see that Documents and Data is taking up a total of 206.1 MB. Most of this is from Other, which is taking up 177.7 MB. When I click on it, there is nothing listed there:

I have seen others posting about this issue here but they don't seem to get a definitive answer about what to do to delete this and reclaim space. One answer gave info about deleting "Other" from the iPhone general storage, NOT Messages. This is not what I am looking for. Another inquiry went unanswered. This is very frustrating. I literally deleted multiple conversations from my phone and attachments to get the file storage size down, but it's taken up by this Other and I can't find the source.

Can someone please shed some light on this?
