Score window: Problem with subdivided rests

Longtime Logic user. When rests aren't the right duration, in the past I have been able to drag "user rests" from the note-entry palette. For example, when 6/8 requires a dotted-quarter rest in each half of the bar, you can drag that object to replace a default "quarter rest plus eighth rest" format.

This isn't working any more. Here's where a quarter + eighth rest are currently:

I drag this dotted-quarter rest from the note-insertion pallette:

And the result is:

It creates a selectable "user rest", but it isn't a dotted quarter. I can't get it to show me a single dotted-quarter rest or single dotted-quarter note.

Incidentally I've always been able to do this before. And it's necessary - Logic isn't letting my put undivided dotted-quarters in my 6/8 and 9/8 bars; they all appear as quarters tied to rests. Help!

Sounds like a bug. Have you reported this?

Provide Apple with Feedback:

Do your Part: Report this to Apple. Fixes may not come about until they are reported to Apple. These are just user-to-user forums.  Apple barely reads these forums as it is on their own time.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what issues exist, and what updates to include in versions to come. Apple will not nothing of your issues, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - Logic Pro - Apple
  2. Select: "Broken feature/Report a problem" for "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: when you came across this issue. Include the URL of this thread.

Hope that helps,

Thank you!

I haven't reported it yet, no, and I will be happy to once we ensure I haven't overlooked something. As a reminder, this used to work fine. So I'm still searching for maybe a button or a setting I've inadvertently botched.

And here's an update: I noticed this failure wasn't occurring in other projects. Exhaustive comparison between settings didn't come up with any difference, so I was still puzzled. And then finally, the "work around": I moved the entire 60-measure region forward by 65 bars or so, and created an *empty 60-measure region in its place*. Then I selected the old region, clicked "select all" in score view, selected the new empty region, and pasted. Problem solved. I had to do that for other regions in the score too, but not all of them.

I still can't find a distinction between the regions where the rests remained wrongly subdivided, and the regions where user rests properly reset the subdivision to a new rest duration. I checked the time-signature "beat grouping" settings, the "interpretation" and "syncopation" settings (though they should not be the issue), and scoured the staff settings (although both regions had the same staff-instrument setting chosen), and score preferences.

I bet someone knows a feature or setting that I've got figured wrong in the "bad" regions - hoping to be enlightened.
