Is there a way to manually rotate the image in a Facetime call?

When I use Facetime to make video calls, it seems to auto-rotate the image of the person I'm talking to. Sometimes it works well, but sometimes it seems to get confused and the image is sideways. Even if I turn my phone in my hand, the image auto-rotates to keep itself sideways.

There are a few controls I can manipulate during a Facetime call, such as switching between the front and back camera, but I cannot find any setting that allows me to rotate the image. I should note that the inset image that shows me works - autorotates - properly. I tried locking the screen orientation, but I ended up with my image upside down or sideways.

iPhone 11, iOS 18

Unfortunately, FaceTime does not currently offer a manual image rotation feature during calls. The auto-rotation is designed to adjust based on the orientation of your device, but it can sometimes misinterpret the intended position, especially if the device is moved quickly or held at an unusual angle.

Here are a few workarounds you can try:

1. Lock Screen Orientation: While you mentioned trying this, ensure the device is held upright before locking the orientation. This might help stabilize the image.

2. Restart the Call: Sometimes, restarting the FaceTime call can reset the auto-rotation and fix the sideways image issue.

3. Switch Cameras: Temporarily switch between the front and back cameras during the call. This can sometimes prompt the app to recalibrate the image orientation.
