Which MacBook is the best to buy?

Hello, I am confused with purchasing macbook air m4 or macbook pro m4. While that the hardware config is almost identical except for display and fans.

my work is majorly on browser, canva, light to medium use of photoshop and movavi video editing .

i majorly use AI tools like mid journey, runway ML, chatgpt and kling.

my major concern is about the heating issues since air doesn’t have fans.

my daily usage is nonstop around 8-9 hours.

I personally have inclination for Air as its sleek and lightweight as compared to Pro.

please guide.

The answer is not as simple as fan or no fan. As its marketing name is intended to imply, a MacBook Pro is more appropriate for professional video editing and other resource-demanding tasks. Apple Intelligence is similarly resource-demanding. When deciding upon the most appropriate hardware to meet your particular requirements, you need to examine the work you intend to perform over the expected life of the equipment and proceed on the basis of that knowledge.

I recommend starting here: Mac - Which Mac is best for me? - Apple, and if you want to chat with an Apple Specialist, you can do that too. They are motivated to make sure you are happy with your eventual decision, and will guide you in that direction.

If you are talking about models based on plain M4 chips, yes. Which chip a Mac uses has a very strong influence upon many aspects of the system design.

The plain M4 MacBook Airs and plain M4 MacBook Pros are similar except for

  • The MacBook Pros having fancier displays with higher PPIs
  • The MacBook Pros having a third USB-C (Thunderbolt) port, a HDMI port, and a SDXC card slot
  • The MacBook Pros having cooling fans
  • Weight and battery charge life differences (related in part to the difference in screens)

But you can get the MacBook Pros with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, which have

  • More CPU cores
  • More GPU cores
  • More hardware video encoding/decoding engines (in the case of a M4 Max)
  • Support for more external displays (M4 Max)
  • The ability to be configured with more RAM
  • Support for Thunderbolt 5 and DisplayPort 2.1

You cannot get a M4 Pro or M4 Max chip in a MacBook Air chassis.
