Rosetta 2 installed but Intel app not opening files

I have a MB Pro, M1, running Sonoma 15.3.2, with Rosetta 2 installed. Using Intaglio 3.9.5, the app will open but attempts to open files (Recent or even New) does not work. Selecting About Intaglio shows a vignette of the center of the About window as does the Registration window. Any suggestion on how the get this working?

Intaglio was discontinued (and unsupported) in 2020. The developer is long gone too. There is no assurance that Intaglio v3.9.5 is compatible with Rosetta 2 or with evolving framework changes in newer macOS updates. Time to consider a modern Universal2 application purposely designed for Sequoia that can replace Intaglio.

There never was an Apple Silicon version of Intaglio, and version 3.9.5 is the first and last version to be 64-bit.

An Apple Silicon Mac (e.g. your M1 machine) requires an Apple Silicon version of a Virtual Machine, and the oldest version of a guest macOS that would be supported is Big Sur (11.*) or later (dependent upon what the VM vendor supports for guest operating systems). You cannot run an Intel-compiled version of macOS on an Apple Silicon architecture Mac. Unless you have 32 GB RAM in that M1 MacBook, a Virtual Machine/Guest approach will be marginal at best.

You could get an older Intel Mac running Mojave (10.14.6) but that would require a clean install of Mojave and then you add the older Intaglio files for conversion. Maybe the EazyDraw vendor provides an older version of it that can run in Mojave so you can achieve both conversions. Just verify that the old version of EazyDraw writes files compatible with the current version.

You should strive to break out of the Intaglia/EazyDraw proprietary file jail. Should EazyDraw cease business operations, you will be in a fix. Although GraphicConverter does import ~ 200 image formats, neither Intaglio nor EazyDraw files are on that list.

Suggest you follow the previous suggestion - First

Though to add some addition info related to Rosetta 2

There are three categories / types of software that can run on the Operations System.

Only Intel Binary Code. This software will invoke Rosetta 2 to translate the Intel binaries so the operating system can understand and execute the Application. The Applications must be 64 Bit to function on Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura / Sonoma / Sequoia

Universal Binary Software.  It contains Both Intel and M1/ M2 / M3 / M4  ARMs binary code and refer to (  Universal 2 ) When the user installs a 64 bit Application that contains Both Intel and M1 / M2/ M3  ARMs binaries - depending on factors, the Operating System may or may not invoke Rosetta 2.

Apple Silicon “ Checking in System Information >> Applications  >> as of now, only see One Application classified as Apple Silicon and that is “ Rosetta 2 Updater “.

I am well aware of the demise of Intaglio. But I have a large library of Intaglio files that I have been converting to EazyDraw which imports Intaglio file format. But I still have Intaglio files that are of an older version of the application that need to be opened in the latest version of Intaglio to be saved the that latest version for importing into EazyDraw.

Since Intaglio no longer opens files for me on my M1 MacBook using Rosetta 2 I feel my only options are to (1) get an older Mac running an old, compatible MacOS that will run Intaglio; or (2) Load an emulation app that will allow me to load and run older version of MacOS compatible with Intaglio. Either of these solutions will certainly be more expensive and time consuming, but with Rosetta 2 not working for me any more I have little choice. Unless, of course, someone out there has a process to get Rosetta 2 to open Intaglio again for me.

Oh yeah, The application Kind of Intaglio is identified as “Application (Intel)”.

Thanks for your input.
