Did not work for me. Remember that the phone has to have at least a decent cell signal to even use Wi-Fi calling, since Wi-Fi calling is a carrier feature.

I've been in some remote areas in West Texas without cell coverage where Wi-Fi calling won't work.....even if the truck stop has a good Wi-Fi network. I had to turn off Wi-Fi Calling, then simply log on to the Wi-Fi.

Note....this was a few years ago. I don't know if things are different now.

Good question. Bob and I have been down this path before. I think it’s at least partially related to carrier features and possibly WiFi service.

I’ve AT&T and have WiFi calling enabled. I can enable Airplane mode and make WiFi calls and receive calls. In some areas it may be related to Emergency Services. Recently I had to update my emergency services address because of some error.

So, it would seem it works. In a couple of weeks I’ll be out West (Montana & Wyoming) and I’ll definitely have no cellular, but satellite WiFi. I’ll try this again.

As I said above, enabling AirPlane mode used to turn off all radios except Bluetooth. Now.....and I don't know when this changed......you can manually turn Wi-Fi on without affecting cellular using the Control Center........(I think).

The OP needs to post back with more information......since his question was how to avoid using AirPlane Mode.

how can stop seeking for coverage without activate airplane mode ??

So, let's first answer the question that the OP asked. My answer was you can't. Then....we got off on other tangents.

But, what happens if there is no cell signal at all? Of course, you can't know unless you can get the phone into an area with no cell coverage.

AirPlane Mode used to turn off both cellular and Wi-Fi radios. Now, there is a partial workaround using the Control Center so you can manually turn Wi-Fi on without affecting cellular. It's confusing.

Well how do you know if it’s using WiFi calling? I just put on Airplane Mode, turned on WiFi again, waited until it said Rogers WiFi then successfully called my Voice Mail. So did it use Wifi calling in this instance? How do we know?

Well my location inherently has poor cell service, so it’s not difficult to get to a place where there’s no cell signal.

I changed my location in the house, turned on airplane mode and had no cellular service.

Then I turned on WiFi, and successfully called my voicemail again.

But I don’t know if it used WiFi calling in this case.

And just before I sent this, I turned everything off again, to make sure it hadn’t picked up a cellular signal, however weak it may be, and it hadn’t.
