Russian folder was created on my Onedrive Desktop!!

There is an unknown folder that was automatically created (and unknown to me) on my OneDrive.

I believe someone has hacked to my account.

Prior to this event, I have scanned my 'Free' Ebooks that I have downloaded from the Wild (free stuffs in ZLib, and some digital bookstores that offers super cheap). I used the free Bitdefender I searched from google and it opened my App Store. The weird thing is it prompted me twice to verify to get it (which is also kind of suspicious).

When I started scanning the folder where the ebooks are stored, Bitdefender got stuck!!!

Then after some time, the said unknown Russian folder was created on my onedrive.

I have never opened yet those free ebooks on my Mac or iPhone or iPad mini.

So I believe, it was those ebooks or bitdefender scanner is the culprit.

I hate to say this but I feel like I have to really invest in Kindle books from now on.

You are not doing the computer any favours by using Third Party Security Software >> " BitDefender "

This will include BitDefender

Windows-like viruses that self-replicate and affect macOS don’t exist because of the underlying UNIX Foundation and permission limitations.

The macOS operating system resides in a sealed and read-only volume that can’t be opened by users or third-party applications.

This antivirus software only protects the developers’ bank accounts and creates problems for users in return.

Mac app security enhancements are sufficient to protect computers from malware.

Adware and malware can affect computers and are often downloaded from “shady” websites or developers who inject them into downloads.

That's Russian for "Documents".

No one hacked your account.

"digital bookstores". Right! 🙄

I have no idea what you did to create that folder. But if anyone hacked your account, it was you. There are no laws on the internet. Google, Apple, and others work very hard to convince people that the internet is a safe place to play around. But it's chock full of all sorts of stolen content, malware, spyware, etc.

By default, you don't need any extra security on your Mac. None of that stuff can hurt your Mac as long as you don't install it. But Apple honours the user's intent. If the user wants to install malware on purpose, Apple will generally let them to that. So if you go exploring those places and installing that stuff on your computer, who knows what you'll find.

If you want books super cheap, there's no better option than your local library.
