i have my music library on my iMac Pro. I use smart playlists to select by play count. I have also put my library on my iPhone 13max. When I try to sync with my iMac none of the play counts update. My iMac is my main source of my music….I put my cd collection on it. How do I get play counts updated from my iPhone?

I'm not quite sure what you're saying.
If you're saying that when you play a song on your iPhone then synch back to your Mac the play count of the track doesn't update on the Mac then that's not what I see. How are you synching.
If you're saying that when you play a track on the iPhone the play count doesn't update on the iPhone and the track remove itself from one of the smart playlists on the phone then that's just the way it works on the iPhone. There are no smart playlists on iPhones - they're just playlists.
Is your device manually managed, or synced? Recent plays made on the device are supposed to sync to the library when the device is synced. If that isn't happening you might try rebooting the device and see if they will update on the next sync.
