Ejecting IPod from my laptop

HELP PLS!!! I found my old IPod nano recently and I’ve attached it to my laptop and put new songs on there and everything, but for the life of me it refuses to eject. It keeps saying ‘cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application’ when it is attached to NOTHING else (I’ve checked many times) and the hardware also pops up on my desktop under the name of my laptop and doesn’t let me do anything with it !! Any help would be great!!
