MCCloudConfigErrorDomain – 0x80EF (33007) and Profile issue?

Hi everyone.

Currently trying to setup an iPad for one of my schools and adding it to our MDM and ASM.

The way that we do this, is by using a MacBook with Apple Configurator 2 on it, wiping the iPad first, connecting it to the Mac, then using AC2 to 'Prepare' it. Our MDM is InTune, so after it appears as a device in MDM, we sync it with InTune and assign it a profile and it usually works fine.

The issue we are having at the moment is that for a couple of the iPads we are currently getting the below error message when trying to 'Prepare' the device in apple school manager:

MCCloudConfigErrorDomain – 0x80EF (33007)

After looking through different forums/discussions, along with the one here, and trying lots of the solutions that seem to work for others, nothing seems to be successful for us.

We have tried making sure it is connected to the WiFi after being reset and then preparing it while still on the setup screen. Making sure the proxy/DNS settings are all configured correctly. Making sure that the exact steps on the Macbook/AC2 work with other iPads, etc.

One issue that I think might be causing some issues is that there is an old management profile on this iPad, from the previous MDM that was used a while ago (Lightspeed MDM). Usually if there is an old profile, I am able to remove it manually of the iPad in Settings, or when resetting or 'Preparing', it will just delete the old profile. It does not seem to work for this one though, and there is no option for me to remove the profile in the iPad settings and it never seems to delete even after multiple resets and attempts at 'Preparing'.

At this point it seems to be that the old profile is the most likely culprit but is there anyway for me to be able to remove this? We no longer have access to the old MDM so I am not able to remove it from the MDM side or anything. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
