Cinelike D and Cinelike V?

My Panasonic FZ300 can shoot Cinelike D and V but the manual dismisses them in about a sentence for each.

I know that many professionals shoot extremely low contrast etc. footage and correct it in post and I am assuming the Cinelike D and V settings on my camera are something like that but I have no idea exactly what they do and also how to set the various parameters.

A number of web searches and YouTube have resulted in articles by experts for experts but I have been unable to find anything in words of one syllable for the uninitiated.

Does anyone know of a simple article or video to enlighten me?

As the FZ300 is a tiny sensor camera will there be any advantage in using the Cinelike settings?

The differences between them are quite subtle.

Cinelike D appears to give slightly less contrast resulting in a tad more detail in the shadows.

Cinelike V punches up the contrast slightly resulting in a slight loss of shadow detail.

Standard and Cinelike D look like the best choices for everyday shooting when one doesn't want to colour correct.

Cinelike V appears suitable for images you need to be full of impact.

All settings can be modified in camera by + or - 5 steps.

Is Cinelike D intended to be used straight out of the can like the "Standard" setting or are you supposed to reduce the Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness before shooting in order to correct in post.

I just want to know whether I am missing something.

As you can tell I'm completely ignorant about colour correcting as I never do it except in the rarest occasions . . . let's face it, family and friends (my usual audience) are not concerned with the nuances of filming . . . they even complain when I insist on them not watching the TV from the side!
