SD card couldn't be ejected because FCP is using it.

This was never a problem but appears to have popped up recently.

FCP used to have an eject button but now I have to close FCP 11.0.1 in order to eject the SD card

I do not often use SD cards, so I grabbed one and inserted into my MBP (thus using its SD card slot for the first time 😀).

I imported a clip.

When it finished, a notification popped up on the right corner saying "import is finished; click to eject".

Since I wanted to test, did NOT click to eject.

I switched to Finder, and tried to eject from there (with FCP still running, of course).

It was ejected without issue.

So maybe FCP was still importing? Or some glitch made it still be using (or appear to still be using) the card?

As to "FCP used to have an eject button": mine still has - press Command-I to open the Import window, and a connected SD card shows with the eject button as expected.

Hi (Bonjour),

Some times, the finder misbehave with removable media. If I use quicklook ( selecting a file in a finder window and use space bar to see the quicklook), the finder won’t allows to eject the card or USB key even with quicklook closed.

I use force quit and relaunch for the finder and the media card can be ejected as expected.

Yes, there is an eject button at the top left of the Import window but clicking it does not eject the card. Instead I get the spinning beachball for a while even though the pie-chart shows the card to be fully recognised/imported.

Moving FCP out of the way and manually selecting "Eject Disk" from the card on the desktop results in the popup message.................................................................

.................................. those dots represent a pause of 15 minutes made in writing this.

I have just tested 2 other cards and they both eject perfectly either by using the eject button or right clicking on the card icon on the desktop.

So it appears there is something unusual about this particular recalcitrant SD card.

It is an Integral 16GB Class 10 card over ten years old and is the only one I have been using for the past couple of weeks. It also appears to be the only one misbehaving.

Whether it is the card or the particular camera (Sony a58) that is causing the problem is something else I will need to investigate.

So there is no problem with FCP.
