How do I get the sync button available on my new windows 11 laptop?

I managed to download itunes onto my new windows 11 laptop and it works,

but had lost all my playlists. I created a new playlist ok, but when I

connected my ipod, I can see all the old stuff on it but I can't sync

it because the sync button is greyed out for the device. In an ideal

world I would like to keep all the old stuff but be able to drag the new

playlist into it, but it won't let me do that either. I do need to add

the new playlist though, even if it means losing all my old stuff (all

my CDs that I copied onto it) please help

Windows, Windows 10

To different issues.

  1. To recover the music from the iPod see the following support documents depending on the type of iPod.
    1. click here ➜ Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - Apple Community (iPod Touch)
    2. click here ➜ Recover media from an iPod- Apple Community (Classic, Mini, Nano, Shuffle)
  2. What sync button is grayed out exactly? Are you referring to the one at the bottom of the general iTunes screen? Or the one in Preferences / Settings that says Sync Library?

The Sync button at the bottom of thew general iTunes screen may be grayed out if you have selected to Manually manage the iPod contents. If which case you can simply drag the playlist from the list of playlists on the right side of iTunes to the iPod on the side bar.

click here ➜ Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support

That sync button will be disabled.

Click on the device icon at the top next to the Media type drop down to open the iPod details. Then click on Music on this side panel. You should then see a Sync button at the bottom.

Then:

Recover your music Library as explained in the links posted above before syncing though as that will erase everything from the iPod.

Copying files from the old computer, is just one option. You can extract the Music as explained there from the iPod. Please read the documents carefully.

It's an ipod nano 4. The sync button is in File/device. The only available option for me when I do that or right click on the device is eject. The sync button is greyed out. I can't edit anything on the ipod either, but it obviously knows its there as I can see what's on it. I did try going into the library and pressing the reset sync history button but that didn't do anything. Sorry about the double post. I thought it was on an old thread and no-one would see it. I was obviously wrong about that sorry.

The instructions in the link above ask for me to copy hidden files from my computer into the itunes folder, but as this is a new computer, the files were on the old one which is dead, so I can't access them. So it looks like I can't copy my old stuff off the actual ipod and I will have to sacrifice a day to copy my CD collection again. I have now been able to sync the ipod thanks to the instructions in the link, so many thanks for your help with that.
