Removing MDM profile from a school iPad
Hey, I’m a 13 year old student at a private high school in Montreal and I own a Silver iPad 10th Generation with 256GB of storage that was purchased by my father for school use. An important thing to note is that all my father did was give the money to the school, as the tablets were already purchased and set for each student, so they could all be identical, don’t know if that affects the legality of what I’m about to suggest, since the school was the one to buy it from Apple. Anywho, here’s my issue, they enrolled my device in a school MDM profile system called ‘Mosyle Corporation MDM’ and what it does is give the school’s IT team access to install apps on my device, as well as choose exactly which apps can be installed via the App Store and which can’t. Another thing it does is completely BLOCK me from installing any other MDM profiles or setting VPN configurations. I have searched up methods on how to remove this, and most suggest that I remove it via the Settings app, but when I direct myself exactly where they tell me to go, the option to remove the profile just isn’t there, so I figured when the existing profile blocked me from installing other MDM’s, it must’ve also blocked me from removing existing ones. All this to say, the next thing all these tutorials suggested was removing it via a third-party Windows program that would essentially remove it by force, just by connecting it to the computer. My issue with this is that it may remove all my school data, as well as a couple paid apps that the school slid into my device via this same management profile, that I’d have to otherwise pay to reinstall, so I had the idea to back it up via Apple Devices on my PC.
Before I go through with any of this, I’d have a couple of questions :
1 - Will removing the MDM via PC remove all of my data on my iPad?
2 - If it does remove all the data and I attempt to recover my iPad via the backup made on Apple Devices, will that backup include the MDM and reinstall it on my iPad.
3 - If it doesn’t remove all my data and successfully removes the MDM, will I still be able to connect to my school Wi-Fi, due to the fact that all school iPads can connect, but not my iPhone or laptop? (I thought it’d still work since most Wi-Fi management tools grant access to devices via their IP address and not some corporate MDM, so I thought removing the MDM wouldn't change the device’s IP).
4 - Will it remove the paid apps installed my the school?
5 - Will the school be able to see that it was removed via their admin dashboard?
Thanks,
Artur
