When I first got my 16 pro max, on the camera button I could fully zoom in at the full 25x. Now the only options I get are the .5x 2x and so on. Now I need to use the screen to fully zoom in as far as it can How do o get that full zoom back?

Do you still have access to the digital 25x zoom with the camera side button? Because that option is gone.

you need to press on 5x then you will get 25x too
To make sure nothing has changed on my iPhone 16 Pro Max using the Camera Capture Button, I opened the camera with the capture button. Then I slid my finger until it landed on zoom and lightly tapped that. Once on zoom, I used my finger to slide across the capture button to zoom all the way to 25x. Is this what you were doing?
Right. It use to do that. Now it has the options mentioned in my post and does NOT do the full zoom like it first did.

Zoom is working just fine on my iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 18.3.2 using the Camera Capture Button or the traditional way. The update most definitely did not remove this feature in any way.
On the iPhone 16 Pro, when you light-press and hold the Camera Control button, it opens a selector menu where you can switch between different modes like:
• Zoom
• Style (Photographic Styles)
• Camera (switch lenses or front/rear)
• Flash
• Exposure
• Depth, and more.
Once you choose a mode (like Zoom), that becomes the new default action for future light presses — until you change it again.
So in short:
• Light press = perform the current default action
• Light press & hold = bring up the menu to change that action
Double light tap to get the zoom.
