iPod Classic 5th Gen lose music after syncing

Ok, step by step.

1: iPod is fresh, restored.

2: Connect to computer, set up.

3: Go to music, try to sync all songs.

4: Wait like. 2 hours for it to finish.

5:all music is gone from ipod.

I don't know what's causing it. iPod is flash modded to 256 gigs if that makes a difference.

I'm just doing a basic, plain ol' no settings sync.

But you have to set new Sync options if you have restored the iPod.

  • connect the iPod to iTunes
  • click on the iPod icon that appears below the menu bar:

  • this will display the Device/Settings/Summary pane. Using the screenshot below as your guide, switch to the Device/Settings/Music pane (1.):

  • tap the box named Sync Music (2.), so that there is a tick (checkmark) in the box
  • in the step marked as 3, choose either:
    • Sync Entire music library, which will add al the ticked music in your library to the iPod (sections numbered 4 will not be displayed
    • Sync Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres, which will then show you sections numbered 4, where you can choose only what you want to add to the iPod
  • once you have set your choices, tap the Sync (or Apply) button in the lower right corner of iTunes (not shown in the screenshots)

Until you set the choices noted above, no music will be added to an iPod that has been Restored.

I just sold two Classics cos they were getting ever more painful to synch. and much less use than they used to.

First of all, I'd create a small playlist and just try to synch that so you're not waiting for ever.

When you've restored the iPod does it show the expected amount of memory free?

Do pics synch OK. Again, put just a few pics in a folder, only synch pics and see if they will synch. It will help isolate it to the iPod or Music.

Assuming you're on a Mac - here are the notes I made the last time I had trouble synching my iPods. They are rambling and I can no longer test them cos I've sold all my Classics. Honestly - I'd wait in case someone comes along who knows what they're doing before deleting plists, although you can always put them back from the bin.

-----rambling starts---

Patience is the best thing. Even if it looks like it's not doing anything, if you wait long enough it'll probably work. If they don't then try delting the plists of

AmpDevicesAgent

com.apple.amp.devicesui (Finder)  - no plist

AmpLibraryAgent

AmpArtworkAgent

Deleting the plists of the above (couldn’t find the devices one ) seemed to unlock the Silver iPod when it wouldn’t synch.

---rambling ends----

Good luck.

If you have restored the iPod, that's why there is no music on it.

When trying to synchronise music from your library to the iPod (after the restore) have you set Sync options? You need to do so if you have restored the iPod.

If you need further help, please let us know whether you're using iTunes or Finder to manage your iPod, whether you are subscribed to APple Music (the subscription service), or whether you have Apple Music (the app), Apple Devices or Apple TV on your computer.

I'm on windows 11, no access to a mac near me, so iTunes. I'm just doing a basic, plain ol' no settings sync. It syncs fine, but then i unplug it and check, and there is no music on there at all, even though syncing like 5 albums works, it's only when i do more than around 6-10. Sorry if this is confusing, i don't know the proper words and such.
