How do I fix disabled iPod and access my photos?

So I have had my mini iPod for years and it has been working perfectly fine 5 months ago when I last used it until now. I wanted to see old photos but when I turned it in it said “IPod disabled , connect to iTunes” I still remember the password and everything I just want to know if I can fix this and make sure all photo memory’s are there!!! Please helpppp me I wanna look back at my childhood photos !! 😓
