Iphone stuck on "Waiting for changes to be applied" (never continues)

I'd seen this previously (last fall, thread here: iPhone sync stuck on "Waiting for changes… - Apple Community

) and it's come up again. I had to remove all music from the iphone previously to get it to sync again which was onerous.

Curious if anyone else with large music libraries is seeing this. Apple has been treating standalone iphone music libraries as second class citizens for a long time. It would be enormously disappointing if there's an unstated limit on storage. Currently at 757GB on a 1TB phone, >100GB free. Both the Mac Studio and iPhone are on the latest OS (Sequoia 15.2 and IOS 18.1.1 respectively).

Wondering if this is related to attempting to sync >100K songs? Didn't realize it was more than 100K until posting this. Believe there's a long running bug in IOS on large object counts.

Ended up removing a lot of content (all music) then starting over. Seems to be syncing again. Deleted all playlists from itunes (music app) and started over there as well.

Somewhat convinced this gets "wedged" when you exceed 100K items, even briefly. Going to keep it below that point and see if it's more consistent. Frustrating, I bought the larger capacity phone for a reason and it's not fit for purpose.
