AirPods as Hearing Device

Has anyone ever wondered why when you pick up your iPhone and it shows two AirPods in the music app but when you play it the music comes out of your iPhone THEN SWITCHES to your pods?

I wouldn't trust such logic as a potential hearing device. Not to mention the fact it wakes up my family if I fail to put the volume to zero first.

Usually happens when I have my AirPods connected to my Mac then switch to my iPhone, not always though. Not really good logic to switch audio destination AFTER playing audio. Remember, my two AirPods icon was PRESENT in the music app on my iPhone. The FIRST thing should be DESTINATION, then play, in my opinion at least.
