I have searched the forums and through the options on the offending (and offensive) iPhone_a. I need help, please!

Sending a text message from iPhone_a to iPhone_b:

  • Both on the latest release of IoS;
  • Regardless of SMS or iMessage, WiFi or cell data;
    • Regardless of addressing to telephone number or email;
  • Message accepted by iPhone_a (blue or green depending on whether to cell number or email) but no delivery message and not received by iPhone_b.

Sending text message from iPhone_c to iPhone_a and iPhone_b:

  • Message sent (blue or green) and delivery receipt received;
  • iPhone_a and iPhone_b both receive message;
  • iPhone_b sends reply;
  • iPhone_a and iPhone_c both receive return iMessage.

iPhone_a sends message to iPhone_b and iPhone_c:

  • iPhone_b and iPhone_c both receive message;
  • iPhone_a and iPhone_c both receive return messages.

Communication between iPhone_a and _b fails in both directions but not when in a group chat. In addition, this behaviour is inconsistent and varies from time to time.

Thank you for your help and guidance. It's driven me mad.

Well, iPhone_b owner said, in passing, that when calling iPhone_a it would go straight to VM and that got me thinking. I checked the 'Blocked' list and, there, buried in amongst more than a hundred others, was the recipient's number.

Two takeaways, I think. I was misled (and over complicated the problem) in my thinking by the fact that the communication would work in a group chat but not one to one. I feel this is strange and, personally, see no use case for it. The second thing is, that the Blocked numbers list was excessively long: the phone is owned by my aging in-law and I am forever restoring former functionality due to misguided actions. I didn't think to check the list and when I did (which is shared by both the Message and Phone apps) it was looong and I was impatient and didn't properly check it (misguided as I was by the first issue above!).

I'll leave this here as maybe it'll help someone else... Maybe, however, someone has an idea on how I could lock down certain features to make my life a little easier? LOL

Regardless, all's well that ends well!
