Worst Mac experience yet

Having just spent £1700 on a iMac ,as you would expect I was eager to get started .Attempted to use Migration Assistant to take all my historic stuff from my 2012 laptop pro, yes I know it was getting on. Now three days later, I'm still struggling to use this expensive piece of equipment. Can't get updates because even though I filled out all the necessary forms to register with the correct name address and bank card details it tells me to enter again and again and again and again and again looking very much like windows 98 to me very disappointed in you, Apple Mac. Apparently Mac assistance don't pick up the phone on Saturdays or Sundays you're stuck with the problem. As it stands this new machine is not much more use than an ornament to me after they rushed out a new operating system without doing their homework without testing properly slacker.

You did not contact Apple Support. You provided banking account details to criminals who have already used those credentials and / or sold them on the black market. Contact your bank and inform them of your error.

To contact Apple Support use the Support link at the bottom of these pages. macOS updates are free of charge and no personal financial information is required.

Never use Google to search for "apple support".

Are you sure you are communicating with Apple? If some site is repeatedly asking for personal and financial details I am concerned you are providing this information to scammers.

Contact Apple Support. The link is located at the bottom left of this page.

Lesson learned

Migrating " to take all my historic stuff from my 2012 laptop pro, yes I know it was getting on " to a New iMac that is probably an Apple Silicon Machine from 2024 - 2025 model

You have the chance without outside assistance to put this right

For Apple Silicon computer >> Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon.

One Size does Not fit All

If the new computer is going to be the Apple Silicon M1 / M2 / M3 /M4 Computer - would suggest Only Migrating the User Account and nothing more.

Some have had success and usually they are well seasoned veterans who are well versed in trouble shooting like my two other colleagues

Others have been left with a mess when Migrating everything.

Issues that may have existed on the older computer will be migrated to the New Computer.

This would badly pollute the new Original and Pristine installation of the new OS.

Applications, extensions and Software Drivers may or may not even work on the new computer.

IMHO - it would be best to only install new application etc Directly from the Developer or the Apple Apps Store.

Due Diligence on New Applications and make sure they are Sequoia compatible and factor in the ARMs CPU of the Apple Silicon Computer

Those updates are free and do not require any bank information, nor address ... nor does Apple require that to log in to an Apple ID. John Galt is correct, you are providing that info to someone who is pretending to be Apple, not to the real Apple.

Apple Support does answer the phone on Saturdays and Sundays.

I don't know who you were calling but it was some imposter most likely, not Apple. You have posted some fighting words, but I think you have unknowingly become connected to an imposter who is taking and using your financial and personal information. Apple's devices are extremely well protected from an IT security perspective, especially a new device with the latest operating system; but Apple cannot prevent users from connecting to bogus web sites or calling phone numbers that are imposters and stealing personal information.
