Can you help with a Photos App issue on my iMac?

On most my devices (MacBookPro, iPad mini, iPhone)when I open the Photos app, I get the photos and videos I've taken with my iPhone. But on my iMac, I get every image that's been sent to me in iMessage.

How can I just get the stuff I've personally taken with my iPhone on my iMac?

iPhone is a 16 ProMax; the iMac is an M4 running Sequoia 15.2

Photos on a Mac is way more versatile than on iOS. One of the greatest things Mac Photos has is Smart Albums.

You can make a Smart Album like this:

to get an album that has only your iPhone 14 pro max pictures from the last month. (You don't have to include the "30 days" thing-- I just threw that in to illustrate what you can do.) You might want to name it My Phone or something better then "temp!"

My experience is that you may get other iPhone pictures that've been sent to you. Some pictures aren't very good as specifying the camera model.

On my Mac I actually add a keyword to help separate pictures I've taken with different cameras. The Info Window looks like this:

with "Richard's Pic" in the Keyword section. You can even search for a keyword after the picture is synced with the iPhone through iCloud.

The settings on your Mac may have enabled the "Shared with you" feature. Then the photos Shared with you will be shown in your Photos Library. See: Change Shared with You settings in Messages on Mac - Apple Support (EG)

In the Messages app  on your Mac, use Shared with You settings to select the apps where you want to see content that’s been shared with you.

To change these settings, choose Messages > Settings, then click Shared with You.

Option

Description

Automatic Sharing

Turn Shared with You on or off:

  • Turn on Shared with You: Click the Turn On button.
  • Turn off Shared with You: Click the Turn Off button.

App checkboxes

Allow content that’s shared with you to appear in each app.

The crashes you are experiencing might be caused by shared photos or recent imports of download photos. You may want to check with smart albums for photos in a legal format, that your Mac cannot handle. How to Weed out Legacy Media in Photos for Mac - Apple Community

I super appreciate your response but I think I need to give you additional information to help me out.

First of all, on my MBP--running the same Sequoia 15.2 does a great job in giving me exactly what I want and I like the look of what I get.

But the iMac doesn't. I get all kinds of images from iMessage. Also, whenever I'm in Photos on the iMac and click on Days, People, Memories or Trips, the Photos app crashes. Everything below those four things work great.
