NO AUDIO WHEN IMPORTING FROM CANON XM2 MINI DV TAPES TO FCP

Previous discussions on this subject appear to be outdated.

My PC is macOS Monterey and I have Final Cut Pro.

My video camera is a Canon XM2.

Until recent downloads to Monterey etc, the system worked perfectly well and I was able to import my mini DV tapes with both video and sound: however, after spending hours researching this problem, I have come up with no fix to include sound (audio) - the picture is imported but no sound. I have even tried via LifeFlix DV importer without success.

Is there any fix to this issue please ?

Will I have to purchase a piece of equipment to digitalize my tapes to mp4 before importing ?

It is VERY frustrating indeed ! Help please.
