Screen record fail but storage don’t come back

I was screen recording this morning on my iPod touch and I ran out of space, a message popped up to say the recording failed

it hasn’t been saved - there was also over 6GB free before I started screen recording but now it says 424MB

I’ve turned up iPod on and off and nothing has come back

i think it’s in the other category

how can I get this space back?
