one day i was trying to plug my ipod into my computer to put music on it then the cable just stopped working so now my iPod touch is dead and I cant charge it

Have a look inside the connector and make sure there's no fluff. If there is clean it out very carefully with a cocktail stick. If there's no fluff then more likely than not the cable is damaged so buy a new one.
