"Hide Alerts" option in Messages not working after iOS 18 update on my iPhone 13 mini

I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 18. Everything seems to be fine except for one annoying thing. The "Hide Alerts" option in Message no longer functions. I keep getting alerts and notifications from the groups that I have silenced. Is this a bug?

Happening to me too. One particular group with one iPhone and one android user. tried all the usual suggestions… close all apps, restart, toggle hide alerts, etc

So I guess we’re stuck with this garbage happening nonstop? Really dislike waking my wife and kid up at all hours of the night since I have friends that work overnight. I noticed last night the ringtone volume was high even when I set it to the lowest setting before vibrate only

An update. I gave in and called Apple Support. The person helping me was excellent. She looked through similar cases and came across one solution recommended by engineers. It worked for me. To be honest, I put a lot of faith into Apple Support when she recommended that I "Reset All Settings" on my phone. I have not done this before, and I worried that it would erase everything on my phone. I trusted her that it wouldn't, and it solved the issue. It did not erase any content. That said, it did reset all of my settings, and I had to sign back into every app any reverify each identity. If you decide to do this, consider taking some screen shots of your display settings and write down any passwords that are not stored in the Passwords app. That was kind of a headache but much less a headache than getting non-stop alerts.

I can't recommend doing the Reset All Settings option. It did not completely fix the bug. To be honest, I think the only thing we can do is ask everyone with this issue to call Apple Support. I don't think Apple Technicians follow these threads. When I talked to someone on the phone, they searched through similar cases of people who called in. I would hope that if enough people called in, then Apple would take this issue seriously.

This has been happening to me since 18.0, and now on 18.3 and it’s still going. Several weeks ago (while on 18.1), I opened a case with Apple and worked with a support tech who was wonderful, but did not have a solution. At that time she advised that it had not been raised to Engineering yet, but maybe it would work better in 18.2.

I don’t see any activity from Apple on this. I am happy to test solutions. Like everyone else, I tried deleting and rejoining, and several other similar sequences with no good result. I even had one group all delete the group the I recreated it. That didn’t work either.

Is anyone aware of any work by Apple on this specific issue? I have not seen anything.

I honestly don't think Apple is going to solve this issue. I called support twice and the person on the line said that the engineers have several so-called workarounds for it which means that they have been aware of the problem for a long time. Clearly it is not a priority.

After updating to 18.4, I initially did not toggle the Hide Alerts option, and the problem persisted. I then toggled it for one of the groups and it seems to have resolved the problem, and has remained so for a few days. I have now toggled the option for the other groups as well.

Hopefully, that's the end of it!
