How to fix iPad Pro app switcher thumbnail issues?

The thumbnails in the app switcher are not showing current status of the app. Specially I keep seeing in the Chrome thumbnail a page that was opened weeks ago and it’s not even in the history of chrome anymore. But the thumbnail keeps going back at it.

Restarting Chrome or the IPad itself doesn’t solve the problem.

its like the thumbnail is cached and never changes.

Close the app (it was chrome and goodnotes for me). You should do it using the three dots in the top middle of the screen (iPad). It will show all open windows from the app. Close all the open windows. It solved the issue for me.

I have exactly same problem, but with Firefox web browser on my iPad Pro also running iOS 18. Whenever I swipe up to switch between apps, regardless of what websites I have open on my browser, I see the same thumbnail that’s from a website (Apple website) which was opened and closed several days ago. I’ve tried closing and reopening Firefox, I’ve also cleared all website data and history, shut down and restarted my iPad and it’s made no difference. The suggestion to delete the app and reinstall is too drastic for my liking, the issue is clearly a software bug that needs fixing.

Same! Ipad Air 4, ipad OS 18.1.1. Issue with Goodnotes and "Pdf viewer by nutrient", also persistent after reboots and app restarts. For multiple weeks now. The Thumbnail is also displayed full-screen shortly when opening the app, until the actual content is loaded.

You might be best advised to submit a Bug Report to Apple using its Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

When submitting a Bug Report, ensure that you include details of your iPad model and installed version of iPadOS within the body-text of your report. Don't rely upon the pick-list - as this rarely includes the current versions.

In the App Switcher, flick the Chrome thumbnail up to close Chrome. Reopen Chrome and see if the thumbnail updates correctly.

If this doesn't help, quit Chrome and force restart your iPad.

If still not fixed, remove the Chrome app and reinstall it.
