Top menu bar has disappeared on my MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro mid 2014 intel duo. Opened to wake and no top menu bar. Reset SMC. Opened in safe mode. Run disk utility, nothing to report. After each operation re opened in normal mode, still no top bar and some preferences are frozen. Grateful for any advice community - thanks!

Thanks, I tried that, no difference. Digging a bit deeper, I can actually use the computer in normal mode, open software etc, internet, email etc. I can open most system preferences but when I try to change, say the desktop pattern, it’s frozen or make changes in dock & menu bar - I can change the size and magnification slider but not the tick boxes under menu bar. Can’t highlight any of the control centre info to the left side. Can you suggest anything else? 🙏
