Unable to search iTunes store in Apple Music on Macbook Air

I am unable to search for music in the iTunes store - the search box does not take any text. I've tried restarting my laptop but the problem persists. I want to buy individual songs from iTunes like I used to before Apple Music appeared. Thanks for any help.
