Apple Calender event always notifies you about changing a repeating event

When I edit an event that is labeled as repeatable, I am normally asked if I just want to edit this specific event (e.g, Pop up window with 'Only This Event'). Once I click 'Only This Event', I should be able to modify this event multiple times without receiving the notification that I am editing a repeating event because it should no longer be tied to the future events as it is not it's own single event. Could someone please tell me how I can fix this because this issue just started happening recently.
