How do I swipe to delete email in iOS 18.1.1
There is no longer an option in the Mail Settings menu to select “delete” as the action when swiping left or right.

I’m asking sort of the same question. I see that Delete is still in the swipe menu, but a full-swipe is now a yellow “Clear” function with a crossed out profile icon. What does that function even do? I tried it and the message goes somewhere, but to where idk. I’m a UX designer and even I’m confused.

Exactly this, and a UI designer here too. It doesn’t appear to be documented anywhere. This behaviour seems to be when the item is flagged as a “Time sensitive update”, like when you get an email saying someone has logged in to your account - if you Clear them, they don’t get sent to Bin or Junk, they seem to disappear which is a concern, as seemingly non-reversible.
Hasn’t for me, I don’t even have delete as an option under swipe function in settings-mail
This worked for me:
Open any account in the Mail app.
Still don’t know what the crossed out profile icon does or how to recover those emails.
But hope this helps.
18.3 seems to have broken it again. I cannot get back the delete button. I have to do gymnastics now to simply delete and e-mail on my iphone.
I have the same problem with 18.3, there is no option now in the mail Slide functions to simply slide left and delete an email. I assume that this was the most commonly required email used for email in iPhones and iPads with so much spam email received.
It now requires multiple steps to simply delete one of these many unwanted emails you get.
currently a full swipe left is a completely wasted function as it “archives” which just moves the email to an “All Mail” folder, I have no idea what use this is or what Apple or the programmer was thinking by removing Delete.
To actually delete an email (go to the bin folder) I now need to swipe left very carefully and select “More” and then select “Delete”, so a slow 3 step process for what was 1 single quick full swipe before.
Please advise if there is solution to this and in the future please just give people more options to customise there devices not remove time saving features.
Try swiping to the left very carefully and look for the word "More"
iOS 18.2 have resolved this issue.
To ensure your iPhone is up to date, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update.

On the Sharing Sheet, Swipe to Left > More > Tap on the Delete Message Option.
Or Delete Multiple Emails, Select from the top right corner > Select Emails > Move > Bin.
That's it.
