Startup page no longer exists when I open Safari in iPad 10th Gen

I just updated my iPad 10th generation and now my settings are all messed up. Seems everytime here is an update this happens. But anyway my startup page no longer exists when I open safari. I had it set to open yahoo news when I clicked safari icon but now it goes o a favorites page. I tried following the instructions that Apple has out, which again no help, so thought maybe someone could help me. Seems my screens never coincide with there instructions.
