Why is my iPhone 16 Pro skipping songs with AirPods Pro 2?

I am getting beyond frustrated with the iPhone 16 Pro. Issues from day one but let me focus on the most recent:

When listening to music using my AirPods Pro 2 (USBC), the song will suddenly skip to a new song, start the song over, go back a song, pause the song. My phone will be set down away from me and the AirPods firmly in my ear. I’ve tried a hard restart with my phone, doing the whole “forget device” with the AirPods reconnecting. Any suggestions?
