Siri Bluetooth problem with Apple CarPlay

I have a Ford Maverick with Apple CarPlay and an iPhone 16. I used to be able to ask Siri to play my new text messages while I was driving. Recently, she tells me I must unlock my iPhone. (I am trying to communicate with her by means of Bluetooth.) And yet, if I press the button on the steering wheel to get her attention and I ask her what time it is, she responds with the time. But if I ask her to play a new text message she tells me I must unlock my phone. But, I can see my text messages when I use the truck's touchscreen to access text messages on my phone. I have my phone's settings set to allow CarPlay while locked.

I have not tried to have Siri read my text messages when the phone is plugged into the truck.

I presume Apple's most recent software update broke the ability to have Siri read my text messages over Bluetooth.
