Can't Hear Track & Have Input Monitoring Enabled Anymore? [Logic Pro 11.1 Update]

Hi all,

After updating Logic Pro to 11.1, I can no longer hear my vocal track after recording, unless I turn off the input monitoring button [I]. I guess this was supposed to be intentional per the change notes of Logic Pro (see attached screenshot), but it is really messing with me, and I don't know what to change in my settings to enable playback of the audio track while input monitoring is enabled.

A workaround is to just disable input monitoring whenever I want to hear my vocal track, I guess, but doing this after every take is tediously horrible. Not to mention that it also takes time to go back and forth, and this adds up.

Does anyone know what the change notes refer to when they say "...unless the Input Monitoring button for the track is also enabled"? I would really love to enable whatever setting this is to go back to how things were.

I am experiencing this as well and it's extremely frustrating. Not only is recording a hassle, but even after I unplugged my microphone and headphones I can't even hear what I just recorded. How is anyone supposed to get any work done like this?

Here's what I did to get it to work on a MacBook Air M1 and a Mac Mini M2 Pro. Both with different audio interfaces.

  1. Save your Key Assignments.
    1. Option + K
    2. Under the Key Command Assignments Dropdown Menu click Save As and name your Key Command Assignments Profile and click save
  2. Reset Logic Pro
    1. Logic Pro Dropdown>Settings>Reset All Settings Except Key Assignments
    2. Click Initialize
    3. Click "Simplified Mode" in the upper right corner
    4. Click Enable Complete Features in the Settings popup window
    5. Close the Settings popup window
  3. Quit Logic and Restart Your Computer
  4. Open Logic Session
  5. Make sure Auto Input Monitoring and Software Monitoring are ON and the Channel Record Enable is ON and the Input Monitoring Button is OFF.
  6. Quick Punch-in Works again.

Did this work for you?

You may read my suggested solutions from another thread Logic Pro X (11.1.1) not working with Ste… - Apple Community and see if they help:

TLDR:

• Check your Mac's Mic Mode, it has to be set to Standard

de-activate (!) Input Monitoring

• uncheck in Logic's top bar menu Record > Auto Input Monitoring

Now you should hear the input like expected as soon as Record is armed.

This is a pretty annoying bug/undocumented feature. I kept wondering why the bass on my track suddenly disappeared.

This is exactly why people like me are VERY hesitant to install updates - it breaks our workflows, and makes the ecosystem unreliable at worst, and time-consuming and frustrating at best.

Pretty soon I'll start submitting invoices for time lost every time an update breaks my workflow.

Yep. I am going crazy. This is legit such a bad update. I am going through every single setting trying to figure this out. I am really trying to figure out how to work around this without having to turn off "Input Monitoring" every single time, But this is just straight up ruining the flow that was easily attainable for being able to hear your audio before this update. I haven't recorded in quite awhile so I genuinely thought it was me before seeing that other people are having the same exact little ANNOYING issue. Please fix it Apple, its terrible and pointless.
