The ipad air 5th generation can't be charged wirelessly but can it magnetically charge a 2nd generation Pencil

We are trying to decide which pencil to purchase to use with a 5th-generation iPad Air. Apple indicates it will work with either the 2nd-generation Apple Pencil or the Apple Pencil (USB-C). The 2nd-generation Apple Pencil indicates it can magnetically attach to and charge from a 5th-generation iPad Air. However, I can't find any other information that suggests the 5th generation iPad Air can support magnetic charging of an accessory when the accessory is attached to the magnetic pad on the iPad.

While the USB-C Pencil can attach magnetically to a compatible iPad, it can (a) only be paired by connecting the Pencil with a USB-C charging cable to the host iPad - and (b) charged with a USB-C cable connected to either the iPad or the iPad's Power Adapter:

The iPad's magnetic charging dock can only be used to inductively charge compatible models of Apple Pencil.
