Selecting Print from the File menu in Photos instantly brings up spinning beachball forever and requires a force quit of Photos

Selecting Print from the File menu in Photos instantly brings up spinning beachball forever and requires a force quit of Photos. I don't get to a Printing window, choose Print from the drop down menu photos and Spinning Beachball is the next thing that happens, then I must force quit Photos or nothing happens until the end of time. That is a full and complete step by step.

This printing issue has endured for three years with three different OS upgrades. I just today installed Sequoia 15.1 and tested to see if I could print and I cannot. There have been multiple printer installs and removals over the years.

I bet there is Photos Print preference file somewhere in the system that I could delete and make this work.

Do you know what that file might be?

Thanks

Andy

That's very weird. Does this occur with other Photos Libraries? or other accounts?

To narrow things down, try these steps:

  • Restart the computer (of course, you've clearly done this!)
  • Re-start in Safe Mode. This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

Those are the easiest things to try first. Then try these:

  • Use another library if you have one, or make a small test Library with a few pictures in it and see if the same thing happens. You can create a new Library by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon.
  • Make a new user and see if the same problem recurs with it
  • Rebuild your Photos Library--close Photos and re-launch by option-command-clicking the app icon.

The idea is to find out if the problem is with the Library, with your account, or with caches and login items, and stuff like that. One of these steps may fix the problem, but their failure to work also helps figure out what's happening.
