Running Photos from remote library

Having trouble with deleting photos and videos from my Photo library, which is on a remote HD (2T). It is taking several minutes deleting one video, and one to two minutes for one photo.

Just updated to new iOS.

iMac 2019 running Sequoia 15.1.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 15.1

hold down the option key and click the Apple menu. The first item should be system information instead of about this Mac.When that opens, go to the USB section and see if you can find the drive plug listed under one of the USB buses. Ensure the maximum speed is listed as 5Gbps and not 480Mbps. The ladder would indicate the drive is connecting at USB 2 speeds.

for information on what would cause that is if you have it connected to a hub with a USB 2 device attached it may revert all ports to USB 2

What have you tried so far? I'm guessing you've rebooted. Have you tried re-starting in Safe Mode? This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

Have you tried using another library? if you don't have one, you can make a small test Library with a few pictures in it and see if the same thing happens. You can create a new Library by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon.

It could be something connected with your account. Make a new user and see if the same problem recurs with it.

You should try rebuilding your Photos Library--close Photos and re-launch by option-command-clicking the app icon.

The idea is to find out if the problem is with the Library, with your account, or with caches and login items, and stuff like that. One of these steps may fix the problem, but their failure to work also helps figure out what's happening.

How is the drive formatted? It should be Mac OS Extended or APFS.

What do you mean by "remote." If you mean it is connected to your LAN and not directly connected to your Mac, that could introduce all sorts of latencies.

Is this an iPhone question?

iMac 2019 running Sequoia 15.1.

Doesn't appear so.
