MacBook no longer takes charge. Need to do a wipe as returning to 'amazon.

In sort of a Catch 22, my used Macbook, purchased through Amazon quit working after four days (won't do that again). Amazon will take it back but I need to have enough power to wipe the Macbook clean. Any ideas? I do have an idential Mac of my own. Maybe switch batteries though being techno impaired it is scary.

You can see if you can get it into Target Disk Mode:

If you can, that would allow you to connect it to your other Mac and then you can perhaps use Disk Utlity to erase that defective Mac's drive.

If you can't get it even into Target Disk Mode, then there's no going to be any easy way to erase it. If your Macs are both identical, then you could perhaps swap batteries long enough to get it going and erase the drive. But removing and replacing the battery is almost every MacBook is a complex procedure and it's easy to damage something in the MacBook that is working, so I'd suggest avoiding that if possible.

Regards.

First, many thanks to all who offered help. The MacBook is used from Amazon but with a return warranty. It is true that it will not power up at all. Most replies require it to power up which is the problem to begin with. i then toyed with the idea of switching batteries long enough to power it on and then wipe everything. However, my current MacBook battery is not compatible with my 2018. It was almost comical in calling every computer repair store within fifty miles. My favorite Apple repair just went under. The next one wants to do a complete repair with new battery, logic board, etc. Essentially a "new" laptop in a 2018 model which would be literally three times as much as i paid for it. I think (think...) I have found a solution. Just purchased a 2018 battery from eBay. The former owner of my local Mac (who has become a good friend as i am totally techno-impaired) said he would fix it from home. That is my last option as i will not return it for a refund with ALL my data still on it.
