Why is the Music app on my iMac so difficult to navigate?

I have been a Mac user for over twenty years and made good use of iTunes. I have a huge music library.

But since the introduction of "Music" and the loss of iTunes, I have been totally lost. Everything about the app seems to want to push me to use the Apple "Music" membership. I'm not interested in that. I am happy with my own music, and that is what I want to listen to.

The simplest things seem difficult.

Has anyone else been bothered by this change? It feels like the interface makes it hard to get to my own library. I do nearly everything on my desktop, and transfer playlists to my iPhone.

Does iTunes still exist?

Can anyone recommend a simple YouTube video that can help someone like me?

Please help!

Mike

Hi,

Apple dropped iTunes for Macs with macOS 10.15 Catalina. See What happened to iTunes? - Apple Support (archive copy) for a brief overview. New standalone apps for Music, TV, and Podcasts were added, with Books taking over audiobook duties. See Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community for some more on the transition and how you might manage your iTunes library that has been converted to Music and any other media content you might have. Most features of iTunes, at least with regard to music, have been carried over, however the interface is a little different. Apple would certainly love you to subscribe to Apple Music, but that is by no means compulsory. View > Show Filter Field may help when exploring your library for content. Syncing duties have been moved into Finder.
