I don't think so.
Finally, Apple added restrictions that mean that no modern Mac can use any iMac as a Target Display. See the bad news here: Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support .
The 2007 iMac is a computer. It does not have a video input and can not be used as a cabled external display.
You do not say what newer Laptop you have, but I recommend using an aftermarket monitor instead of the iMac.
Won't work! Also, 2007 iMacs were 20" and 24" displays. 27" iMacs ran from late 2009 to mid 2020. Since 2021 all iMacs have been 24" displays.
Finally as stated, iMacs are computers they are NOT external displays for other devices.
Only by setting up Virtual Network Computing.
