iPhone XR won’t save duplicate photos

I recently updated my phone to the new iOS 18.1 and I have to say, the changes so far have been awful. The camera roll has given me more trouble than anything.

I have a large number of photos, and I recently asked a friend to send copies of several pictures that are lost in the mess of my collection. Every time I try to save a photo, I get a pop-up simply telling me either “this is a duplicate” or “this is already in your camera roll” and no option to just save the duplicate anyways. Even deleting the originals does not solve this problem, as it keeps insisting the photo is already in my camera roll.

Is there a toggle to make this stop? I’ve been trying to find one and I’m getting incredibly frustrated.
