How display a 'Today' pane on left pane in Calendar on Mac, as I can on iPad?

On my iPad, in Calendar I like to use a Monthly view but on the left pane I choose to see a Today view. In that left pane, you can choose Calendars, Inbox, or Today, and I like the Today view (which is actually not just today's events but rather an itemization of events).

But I can't see a way to see that Today view on the Mac Calendar app. In the View menu, the only thing you can do with the left pane is to show or not show the pane with the Calendar list, or show or not show the Pane with Notifications. You can't seem to show the Today list. it's frustrating because I have a large 24" screen and there's plenty of real estate there for a left pane itemizing today's events.

Any advice?
