Macbook Pro cannot complete App store purchase - "server with the specified hostname could not be found"

Hi - My Mac has recently been reformatted and I have begun the process of reconnecting to my Apple ID /icloud account. I cannot, however download from the app store - the error in the subject title keeps coming up. Some advise on how to reconcile the hostname issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
