when transferring music from Mac air to USB device, the album art doesn't transfer
I'm transferring the music on my MacAir to a USB device. The music transfers but not the album art.

Artwork syncs when you sync your Mac to your iPhone because both devices are designed to do that. But flash drives aren't.
As for copying to a flash drive, it depends on how you got the album art. If you used Music/iTunes to automatically retrieve album art online, the images are not embedded in the AAC/MP3 song files and consequently won't be transferred when you copy the songs to the flash drive.
In order to embed album art in the song files you have to use GetInfo to actually copy the images to the songs. You do this in the Music/iTunes app. Plus you can select multiple songs and copy the same image to all of them at once, so you don't have to do them one at a time.
