Previously, I have set up a number of Calendars and also shares to friends calendar. I can no longer choose which Calendars to display, it displays ALL of them. When I click on Calendar at the bottom of the screen, the App disappears. It works OK on iPadOS 18.1

Try to turn off Calendar in each account in Settings > Apps > Calendar > Accounts. Open the Calendar app and turn on one by one Calendar in each account, checking the Calendar app after each addition.
